What difference does it make

A Grandpa and Grandson were taking a late afternoon walk down by the ocean. There were thousands of Starfish that had washed up on the deserted beach. As they walked, the Grandpa would bend down and gingerly pick up the Starfish.  One by one he began returning them to the safety of the ocean. The Grandson asked “Grandpa why are you putting the Starfish back in the Ocean?” The Grandpa said “It’s low tide now and all these starfish have been washed up onto shore.   The sun is up and, if I don’t throw them back into the sea, they’ll die here on the beach.”

The Grandson said “I understand, but there must be ten-thousand Starfish on this beach. You can’t possibly get to all of them, this is a futile effort.  What difference does it make anyhow?”  The Grandpa smiled, bent down and picked up yet another starfish, and as he tossed it back into the sea, he turned to his Grandson and said “It makes all the difference in the world… to that one!”

In 2 Peter 3:9 The bible says “The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. Instead he is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.

What you do makes difference.  We can’t help everyone, but we can help someone. That someone is out there waiting for you to fight your way through the crowd, and COME TO THEIR RESCUE. Someone needs you to gingerly pick them up. Maybe it’s just a single act of kindness, an encouraging word, or just someone to listen. Keep your eyes open because they are looking for you.
