Randy Pauch was a beloved professor from Carnegie Mellon, who made a speech called THE LAST LECTURE. He had terminal cancer and he wanted to spend his final days encouraging people to live life to the fullest! With power and impact, he shared his thoughts on how to achieve your dreams and how to enable others to achieve their dreams.
In his speech he talked about roadblocks and hitting the brick wall. Surprisingly, he didn’t view the brick wall as an obstacle to get over, under, around or through. He viewed the brick wall as a FILTER. The brick wall FILTERS out those who are not strong enough, bold enough, passionate enough to press on. Eve Pompous said “It’s not always the biggest, strongest, fastest, or even the smartest who make it, it is those who can ENDURE the most.”
We start our life and careers with great intentions and bold dreams. Excellence isn’t easy and success is hard by design. Fatigued and frustrated we have to fight on, that’s what WINNERS do! The brick wall will filter out those who don’t have enough heart, grit, and passion to complete the drill.
St. Paul was on a mission to evangelize the world and boy did he hit a few brick walls.
2 Corinthians 11:23-28
I have worked much harder, been in prison more frequently, been flogged more severely, and been exposed to death again and again. 24 Five times I received from the Jews the forty lashes minus one. 25 Three times I was beaten with rods, once I was pelted with stones, three times I was shipwrecked, I spent a night and a day in the open sea, 26 I have been constantly on the move. I have been in danger from rivers, in danger from bandits, in danger from my fellow Jews, in danger from Gentiles; in danger in the city, in danger in the country, in danger at sea; and in danger from false believers. 27 I have labored and toiled and have often gone without sleep; I have known hunger and thirst and have often gone without food; I have been cold and naked. 28 Besides everything else, I face daily the pressure of my concern for all the churches.
Y’all have a great day, GOD Bless ya’ and I’ll see y’all, on the other side of the wall.
